Sorry I have to write in English, but I don't know how to speak German (yet).

Just thought I would drop by and say hello from America!

And I think German airplanes are very, very cool!

Bavaria is one of the oldest European states.
It dates back to about 500 A.D., when the Roman Empire was overcome by the onslaught of Germanic tribes. According to a widespread theory, the Bavarian tribe had descended from the Romans who remained in the country, the original Celtic population and the Germanic invaders.

Going great. I'd like to learn German because I like German people, and I have a great deal of respect for German engineering. I like the way the German language sounds as well.

And obviously, the FW190 is my favorite fighter/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Also, one of the main reasons I want to learn German is to learn more about German aircraft of WWII. I would like to be able to locate and understand original German charts, documents and aircraft manuals.

Unfortunately I don't even have a German/English dictionary yet, but maybe I'll get one today.

Please apologise to those on this forum who don't speak English and may be annoyed by me. I decided to post because I recognized some of the names over here and I knew some would understand.

Yes, the FW190 is much improved. Much more like I imagined my favorite fighter must have been like in reality.

The high-speed roll-rate is a bit too fast though, 120 deg/sec over 380mph. Should be dropping off a bit at high speeds.

FI_Genosse:

One of the reasons I want to learn is so I can understand original German charts and documents. It's frustrating to me to see something like this and not be able to understand it.

no by god it wasnt a joke at all.

I belive it is first important to learn the words befor learn any correct gramma use.

so a 1 to 1 understand and speak must be known befor start
get your gramma correct.

First is important taht u know a bit at least about what they talking then try to answer, best as you can with using the words taht you have in mind and try to bring the others to understand you.

belive me they will understand even if your gramma isnt correct.

The gramma you will learn with time if u see/hear how others do write/speak.

Hi FW190Fan...

... I would like to say 'Congrats!' /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif The German language is absolutely amazing and I am here myself in the hope that I'll get to become very familiar with it.

I would like to give you a little bit of advice - only as someone that has been through this before... it definitely helps to get some classes. I do speak fluently 5 other languages, and let me tell you... German is definitely not the 'learn all by yourself' kind. It was by far the most dificult, but definitely not impossible.

... That being said... good luck! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

The people here are great and very helpful. And make sure you do drop in the off topic forum, you'll have to go through the 270 (or so) pages of the Endlich thread /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif )

I think correct would be "Danke fr den Rat."... "Ratte" is "rat" in english.

One more thing... there is a big difference between "u" and "" (umlaut u); same goes for all other umlaut sounds... if you don't use them properly, let's just say some sentences can have interesting meanings (i.e schwul = "homosexual", schwl = muggy). If you don't have a german keyboard, you can use the character map program that comes with windows.

Well, Cuski (and FW190fan), there would be another way to write those 'Umlaute' in German. You can write '' as 'ae', '' as 'oe' and '' as 'ue' if you do not have acess to those letters on your keyboard. The same is true for the '' which can be written as 'ss' also. It will be easier at first using this, I think, and as you progress you can change to using the 'Umlaute' in the way they are really written.

And then there is 'Schwul', which does specify homosexuality, but usually the one of the male kind. 'Gay' might be a bit better translation. /i/smilies/16x16_robot-happy.gif

The first sentence you have to learn to survive in Germany is "Noch ein Bier bitte /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif ."
Especially when you come to Bayern /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif .

LOL! Wir haben das in Rumnien auch, aber statt des Biers wir haben "tuica" (zuika: eine Art von Wodka). /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

If you don't have a german keyboard, you can
- use the character map program that comes with
- windows.

Du kannst fr auch einfach ue fr ae und fr oe schreiben, das hat die selbe bedeutung... (und ist, wenn man mal schnell was schreiben will sicher einfacher als die Zeichentabelle in Windows)

You can also write ue for , oe for and ae for , that has the same meaning...

The beer at the Oktoberfest is not bad, but you'll surely find better stuff of Bavarian beer outside the big events with alot of people.

That's always depnds on your own gusto, some like that, some like this better.

Thanks Kimura for your advice !!

ok....I'll try a few bars away from the main attractions.

Maybe after too many beers the experience will be forgetable due to memory loss..

Cheers!
Down the hatch!

I remember my holidays in GB, when I ordered a beer I got a very small one (0,2 or 0,3l I guess). It's the same in parts of Germany (e.g.:Kln). When I ordered "eine Halbe" the waiter looked at me as if I was a martian.
After a while and many beers he called me an " Ersatzbayer" /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif .
LOL
